LEVEGO Environmental Services

Levego has been in operation now for just over 20 years. During this period, we have endured many tough times and celebrated many good times. We have grown as an organisation and have achieved many successes. Levego Environmental Services (Pty) Ltd, an affiliated Levego company, is a Level 2 black-owned company. Its founding members were D L Posthumus and G B Woollatt, while H L Butcher joined the team in 2002. They all remain active in Levego Environmental Services (Pty) Ltd.’s operations and management. Curtis Malinda, Projects Director, joined the Levego Environmental Services executive team in 2018 and has been with the company for 12 years.

We have achieved what we have set out to do and we have articulated as senior management what we believe our core values to be – Customer service, Respect, Integrity, Trust and Quality.

Based in Modderfontein, Gauteng, Levego Environmental Services (Pty) Ltd offers its nationwide and international client base a professional, competitively priced, and specialised suite of accredited environmental services and laboratory analyses.

All personnel are trained under our continuous quality improvement programme. Rigorous evaluation ensures all staff are competent where required in line with our ISO/IEC17025:2005 (T0846) and ISO 9001:2015 management systems (Registration No. LS4141).


Stack Emission Services

Our services include the isokinetic measurement of particulate matter, velocity, temperature, and pressure profiles. Levego Environmental Services’ services extend further to particulate matter and fume extraction plant balancing, gas cleaning plant efficiencies, dynamic particulate matter emission monitoring, calibration of automated measuring systems, and gas producer performance.

Levego Environmental Services is uniquely positioned to offer its clients a comprehensive independent calibration service for all makes of online continuous emission monitors.

Stack Emission Services performed by Levego Environmental Services can be carried out as accredited or non-accredited results depending on the customers’ requirements. Accredited results are performed under ISO/IEC 17025:2017 SANAS accreditation number T0846.

Levego Environmental Services offers a comprehensive array of environmental analysis, including the supply of specialised sampling media that is outsourced to a carefully selected group of national and international accredited laboratories.

Equipment Supply

Levego Environmental Services can provide a range of portable analysers as outlined below, but not limited to.

  • Portable combustion and emission analysers,
  • Portable flame ionisation analysers (FID),
  • Isokinetic and gaseous stationary source emissions measurement equipment and
  • Toxic gas analysers
  • Portable ambient BTEX analysers

Ambient Air Quality

We offer ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited dust fall-out monitoring in accordance with ASTM D1739.

We co-ordinate the installation of appropriate fall-out stands, site maintenance and collection of samples at the prescribed pre-determined intervals. Samples are collated and analysed in accordance with ASTM D1739.

Levego Environmental Services’ ambient air quality assessments are performed using Radiello™ tubes for the following contaminants:

  • BTEX/VOC, aldehydes, ammonia, hydrogen fluoride, nitrogen dioxide, sulphur dioxide, ozone, phenolic compounds, hydrogen chloride, etc.

We offer an odour control solution. The service includes odour assessments, odour surveys, sampling, analysis, and odour modelling.

NAEIS Reporting

Levego Environmental Services helps with the completion of your submission requirements to the South African National Atmospheric Emissions Inventory System (NAEIS). The NAEIS is an online national reporting platform aimed at holding both air pollutants and greenhouse emissions inventories for the Republic of South Africa.

Leak Detection & Repair

Leaking equipment, such as valves, pumps, and connectors, are a large source of emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and volatile hazardous air pollutants (VHAPs).

We offer a leak detection measurements service following the requirements of US EPA Method 21 and international best practice.

Extension of Scope

We are extremely excited to announce that Levego Environmental Services have successfully transitioned to the ISO 17025:2017 standard. In addition, we have at the same time, also extended our scope of accreditation to include the following invaluable standards to our service offering.

BS EN 14181:2014 Stationary source emissions. Quality assurance of automated measuring systems (AMS) to include, 

  • a procedure (QAL2) to calibrate the AMS and determine the variability of the measured values obtained by it, so as to demonstrate the suitability of the AMS for its application, following its installation;
  • a procedure for the annual surveillance tests (AST) of the AMS in order to evaluate (i) that it functions correctly and its performance remains valid and (ii) that its calibration function and variability remain as previously determined.

20 Years in Business

Highlighting some of the significant achievements that we have achieved over the last 20 years:

  •  One of the first companies in South Africa to achieve full ISO17025 accreditation for more than 49 methods, successfully migrated to ISO 17025:2017 system.
  • Extended scope to include EN14181 and EN 13281: Part 2 amongst others which is a first in the country
  • Successfully maintained our ISO 9001:2015 quality management system
  • Maintained and improved many of our systems in our business despite a very difficult economy
  • Successfully achieved highest safety rating from Sasol, gold standard for safety, including an independent 5-Star safety rating from IRCA for both ISO 45001 and 14001 management systems.
  • We started out in the beginning with 3 people doing stack emission testing and have grown the business to where it is today offering in addition to stack testing – specialised sampling equipment, ambient monitoring services, laboratory analytical services and a variety of environmental consulting services in conjunction with leading experts in the field
  • We have successfully completed several ISO 17025 projects despite the difficult economic climate
  • We have significantly expanded our service offering to the market which is anticipated to bear fruit soon as we start to engage with our clients and become essential, indispensable partners in their environmental compliance journey

The PyxisGC BTEX is the first “carrier gas free” gas chromatograph for remote BTEX monitoring in ambient air. PyxisGC BTEX is manufactured in compliance with EN14662-3:2015 specifications.
